Country Ruffled Curtains
Some Cape Code-esque country ruffled curtains can be the
perfect addition to any room to give your house the feel of a small cottage on the beach. You can start off
with curtains you already own or brand new curtains fresh from the store. Adding your own ruffles to the
curtains means they will have your own, completely customized feel to them. The best part about making your
own country ruffled curtains is that the process is not time consuming at all. You can start sewing after
breakfast and show the finished product off to your friends during lunch.
The first step in making your country ruffled curtains is
deciding if you want the ruffles to be on the front or the back of the curtain. For my ruffled curtains, I
decided to sew them on the back. This is because when you sew the ruffles on the back of the curtains, there
is no hem required. If you choose to put the ruffles on the front, make sure to add a small hem to the
curtain's edge before getting started. Once you have decided which side to add the ruffles to, you can get
started. For the sewing, you can use a pin and needle if you don't have a sewing
machine.
Start sewing
on the middle edge of the curtain and gradually work your way around to the bottom. When you reach the
bottom, make sure to leave yourself enough slack to be able to turn the corner to start on the bottom so the
ruffles don't end up looking too tight. Once you are sewing at the bottom of the curtain, try to keep your
sewing line at the bottom of the valance and slightly below the top rod pocket. Once you are done with the
bottom, continue back up the curtains on the opposite side from which you started on and keep going until you reach
the top. Once you have reached the top of the curtain once again, take a step back and look over your country
ruffled curtains to make sure they look just the way you want them to.
Check and plan out spots for hooks on each side of the
window. Once the hooks are in the wall you can hook in the curtains to give them a stylish flair.
Remember to choose smaller sized hooks for the wall because over sized ones can look out of place in a small
room. You should be able to find the perfect hooks at any online store that sells curtains. Stitch
together a small tieback for your curtains and your job is complete.
Now it's time to invite the neighbors over to check out your custom made country ruffled curtains that only took a
few hours to make. They will surely be impressed and want to know how you managed to come up with such a
creative design. We will let you decide if you want to tell them the truth or tell them you came up with it
all by yourself.
